The initial function we were given was y=x squared. The find the inverse of it we flipped the x and y around (x=y squared), you have to get y by itself again so you take the square root of both sides and wala you have you inverse function. Be sure to remember the your new square root can be either positive or negative so you need to graph them both. If a functions inverse is also a function you should be able to fold it over y=x and have them both line-up with one another. I don't know that all functions would have an inverse that is also a function, it does seem logical that most would though (I can't think of an example). |
